Still remember that after I attend the photography workshop , my compact camera Nikon lense convering error and I can't fix it ??

Well , I finally decided to buy a new one . But I still wondering what to buy . Saw this camera which is Canon G 11. The price is selling RM 1999 and is between a pro and a semi pro camera . At first , thinking of wanna buy a Lumix cam  and a DSLR . But think back .... I really need a DSLR ?? What is the purpose for me to use it ?? for casual use or camwhore or professional ? Nowadays , many people do OWN  a DSLR but then , many of them DOESN'T know how to function with it and IS KINDA WASTE for that . Coz I see when they are taking picture , they are using AUTO mode instead of manually adjust the mode that suitable for the shot . So I need some suggestion for that on is Canon G 11 is worth to buy ?? I've read the review and all is a good review . OF coz there are some cons for that . So ,  people that love to takes pics / interested in camera , I'm welcome you guys to leave some comment to me . =)
