D’cocont Resort, Pulau Besar, Johor 2D1N getaway

Arrived at Mersing jetty at around 10 am. It was still too early. The boat was supposed to depart at 12.30 pm. The Resort Mersing office was still closed. So we went around Mersing town for a cup of tea. Actually there isn’t much change since we last visited this town when we went to Pulau Tioman few years ago.
We bought some ‘duku’ fruits and had them at the seaside just to kill time.
Even this cat is also curious to know what we are eating!
Finally at around 12.30 pm we boarded the speed boat, only to find out that the passengers were just me, soul mate and another guy whom we found out is the sales manager from the resort KL office! Needless to say the boat sped at maximum speed, I think!
Look at the waves you would know how fast the speedboat is moving!
Better put on the life jacket tight tight in case…
Approaching the island..
Another 25 minutes we were already at the Pulau Besar jetty! The weather was not so good with cloudy sky.
Approaching the jetty…
About another 200m walk, we were at the D’coconut Resort for checking in.
The resort lobby cum cafeteria.
The chalet we stayed has only one room with a detached bathroom. It is facing the swimming pool. There is no TV, no telephone, no WIFI. So you are completely cut off from the whole world if you do not bring a handset! There is only one bed and one small table without a chair! However there is a small fridge. That’s all.

Okay, we are supposed to come here to relax and unwind to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, right? So all those amenities are not important at all!
After putting our luggage, we went for lunch at the cafeteria. It’s buffet lunch. I would not say it’s sumptuous. However, there isn’t any no complaint about the food.

At 3.00 pm, we were ready to go for our jungle trekking activity. Together with us were a group of French and a group of Chinese family from Johore Bahru too. All in there were 35 of us! There were more kids than adults in this group. There’s a guide to take us through the jungle trek.
The trail was not very tough. We stopped at three beaches on the way. The sands at the beaches are very fine, white and pristine. Actually Pulau Besar has beautiful beaches. You need not go so far to Pulau Tioman to enjoy the same beaches. It also boasts of beautiful corals around the island!

Jungle trekking…
But very disappointed to say that some of the beaches are littered with plastic bottles and other rubbish. From what I observed, it’s the bottles left behind by the trekkers who made no effort to bring back the garbage. Sign boards should be put up to remind the trekkers not to leave any rubbish behind.
The beach littered with garbage..Ugly side of the beach…
Abandoned sighboard in the island.
It would be much more educational and informative if the guide could tell us more about the history of this beautiful island. He only told us that there used to be 6 villages in this island and all the villages had been relocated to the mainland! Now there are three resorts and a homestay in this island.
After about 3 hours trekking, we were back again at the resort feeling tired and needless to say with some itchy rashes around the body due to sand fly bites !
At 7.30 pm, everyone was waiting at the cafeteria for dinner. That night we had a sumptuous bbq dinner. There were chicken wings, drumsticks, beef and grilled fish. They even served satay! All tasted good! The only thing that I feel missing is no music was played during meal time. It will be more relaxing if they could play some light music.
After dinner, we went for a stroll along the sea side, enjoying the cool sea breeze and listening to the sound of waves hitting the beach. However, that night we couldn’t see any star!
Actually there is not much thing you can do in this island at night. There is a TV next to the cafeteria. The kids were enjoying the cartoon show. There is a temporary white screen to screen a movie at night for guests who want to watch a movie.
The only entertainment at night at the resort!
Around 7.30 am the next morning we were at the swimming pool for a swim. Just two of us. Breakfast was simple. I think they should serve fresh milk and cornflakes as there were so many kids around.
At 10.30 am, we checked out for our return journey!
Some seasport facilities at the island.
The only jetty in the island..
School of fish beneath the jetty.
Actually I regretted for not staying for another night so that we could go snorkeling.
Never mind, I will definitely come back another time for the snorkeling trip!
Note: The effect of the photos may not be good as the pictures were taken using handphone.
