Canon printer 1800series is kinda hot in Malaysia. I know how ridiculous it feels like if it doesn't work with Ubuntu.

Thus, after few hours of technical read-up. I finally found the solution and simplified the steps needed for the installation.

These are the two articles which lead me here:

Of course, you don't even need to take a look at the two articles, because I am here to provide you an easier way.

First, DO NOT PLUG IN YOUR PRINTER YET.
Do not follow the auto setup because it will lead you nowhere.
We gotta install the driver first before we can connect the printer.

Download the 4 files below and install it according to the sequence:
(Right click -> save link as)
1. libcupsys2 - as required by the canon package
2. libpng3 - as required for printing
3. cnijfilter-common_2.70-3_i386.deb - If you happen to find a package with the same name elsewhere, this is the unique version which I have modified to ease your task. Same goes the package below.
4. cnijfilter-ip1800series_2.70-3_i386.deb

You must download and install my version of the two drivers above or it is not going to work.

After all the four steps:
- Open up the Terminal
- type cd /usr/bin
- type sudo ln -s ./libtiff.so.4.2.1 ./libtiff.so.3

If it prompts to tell you that libtiff3 already exists, ignore it.

Then, type this in terminal:
chown root:root /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij

After this, you're ready to connect the printer.
Turn it On and connect the USB.

Wait for a moment until the notification prompt you that your Canon 1800series is installed.

Or, you can do it manually by the following steps:
1. Go to System>Administration>Printing
2. Double click “New Printer“.
3. Select Printer Type “Local or Detected Printer”
4. Select a Detected Printer: Canon iP1800 series and click next.

For my case, it is detected automatically and I just have to:
1. Go to System>Administration>Printing
2. Double Click on the Canon 1800 series Icon
3. Print a test page
