"Let me firstly assure all of you that there is no reason to be alarmed."

"As part of TM’s Capital Management initiative, what TM has been doing for the last 2 years is to identify suitable assets primarily in the form of land and buildings for monetization. Monetization is a way for TM to realize the value of the asset, where proceeds from the monetization of the fixed assets can be redeployed elsewhere to generate greater returns for the group. For example, TM managed to realize the value of Menara TM and other buildings for about RM1 billion early this year by entering into sales and leaseback arrangement. All the buildings are still occupied by TM, operated and maintained by TM and still known as Menara TM, Menara Celcom, TM Cyberjaya and Wisma TM (Taman Desa). Technically, the buildings still belong to TM."

"Similarly, I would like to emphasise that although there is plan to unlock the asset value of MMU, it is basically to monetise the existing land and/or buildings in MMU, and not to sell the operations of the university itself. MMU as a university will continue to be owned by TM and continue to play its unique part in the Group. This plan however is still at initial feasibility stage."

"Therefore, I wish to urge all staff and students to focus on your responsibilities as employees and students of the largest private university in Malaysia. As TM moves forward with the One-Company Mindset that binds us all, every business unit must play its part and contribute to the Group’s aspiration to be Malaysia’s Leading Next Generation Communications Provider. MMU in particular, has a distinct role in the Group, and will continue to strive to be a world-class academic institution in the fields of engineering, information technology, management and multimedia technology. As a university under TM, we should be proud that for the last 10 years, MMU has been providing the Group with the necessary flow of highly-skilled employees who contribute to its continuous growth and success. On a bigger scale, we are also contributing to the development of the country in terms of capacity building especially in ICT. Last year alone, our university produced more than 3,000 graduates, thus reinforcing our stature as a fertile training ground for the nations’ knowledge workers of the future."
